Belize Crinoids are ancient creatures
from the echinoderm family.
They are related to the common
starfish.
Crinoids appear plant-like
and resemble a sort of aquatic fern.
It's not until you observe them
closely that you will
notice that
the legs coil and uncoil gracefully
on their own. Their legs act as filters
catching small plankton and
other
microscopic debris. Seen here is an
extreme close-up of the tip one of
the Crinoid's legs.
